§1 Planned Features

The Unified Action Center (UAC) is meant to be the central point for Ashet OS configuration. It should enable configuration of system behaviour, defaults, file associations and other settings.

The main differentiator to other OS-wide settings applications is that the UAC is meant to allow not only pre-defined actions, but also allow actions to be defined through scripts. This way, a highly custom user experience can be achieved.

The idea for the UAC was inspired by Plan 9 plumbing, which also allows defining arbitrary actions for a selected text string.

In Ashet OS, the vision is deeper and should also allow defining actions for drag'n'drop, automatic conversion between source and destination types, but without putting to much load onto the user. Thus, a set of predefined rules shall be selectable for actions so users don't have to touch code just to configure file associations.
